More PS5 pre-order delays have been reported by a UK retailer after Sony had informed its retail partners of their console allocation for launch.
We’re roughly seven weeks away from the official launch of next-gen console gaming. Unfortunately, things haven’t been going that great for gamers who want to get a PS5 or Xbox Series X.
The first wave of PS5 pre-order delays was announced to Amazon customers via an e-mail earlier in the month. The e-mail cautioned customers that they “may not receive [the PS5] on the day it is released” due to exceptionally high demand for the console. Now, a UK retailer has announced a possible delay of its own — and this might be just the start.
More PS5 Pre-Order Delays May Be Announced
“We have received the allocation details from Sony and, unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to fulfil your pre-order on day one/release date,” read an e-mail from UK retailer ShopTo sent to VGC.
The e-mail was sent after Sony notified its retail partners of their console allocation; that is, Sony has told stores how many consoles they would be getting for launch. In this case, it appears that ShopTo will not have enough consoles to fulfill all of its pre-orders.
The unfortunate customers facing PS5 pre-order delays on day one will see a “Not confirmed for day one” message on their order status page. This leaves these customers with three options: wait for new PS5 stock to become available, switch their pre-order to a discless console, or cancel their pre-order entirely. Customers aiming to switch to a digital console will be given priority should they decide to make the change.
What does this mean? In this case, ShopTo has obviously taken in more pre-orders than they can fulfill. This could be an isolated shortage or a slip-up by one retailer, but it could also mean that other PS5 pre-order delays may be announced. For now, all customers can do is cross their fingers and hope for the best.
